Join us for this ILA in seminar when our specialist panel will explore special administration regimes and other national interest insolvencies, such as British Steel and Carillion.  Professor Rebecca Parry will launch the discussion with a précis of her research on this topic, following which the panellists will consider the case for reform through the lens of their extensive experience of special administration and national interest cases.

Speakers:

Adam Al-Attar KC: Adam is a King's Counsel at South Square.  Adam splits his practice between insolvency and restructuring, and commercial matters, in particular, banking, financial services and the law of trusts.  Adam has substantial experience of bank and fund insolvencies and their related special administration regimes.

Richard Bulmore: Richard is a partner in the Ashurst restructuring and special situations group and has acted on a number of investment bank special administrations, national interest case insolvencies of British Steel and Thomas Cook, and other mandates for regulators, including the Bank of England, and government bodies.

Professor Rebecca Parry: Rebecca is a Professor at Nottingham Law School and has published widely in various aspects of insolvency law and latterly in law and technology.  Rebecca will present her recent paper: "A critical review of approaches to insolvencies of wide public impact" during the seminar.

David Soden: David is a senior managing director at Teneo, with over 20 years’ experience in complex international insolvency assignments and related advisory engagements. He has acted on numerous mandates acting as joint special administrator including Sova Capital Limited, IBP Markets Limited and Sberbank CIB UK Limited.

Inga West (Chair): Inga is a counsel in Ashurst's restructuring and special situations group and has acted on numerous high-profile mandates such as British Steel and Thomas Cook and other mandates for regulators and government bodies.  Inga chairs the ILA's technical committee and co-authored: "Should administration or compulsory liquidation be the process of choice for large strategic insolvencies?" (presented at the Insolvency Service's Forward Thinking Conference (2022)).
